There has been some interest expressed in a Major Midget RSL Kings program. There has been some interest expressed in a Major Midget RSL Kings program.
Given that we must find and contract ice well in advance of the season (this happens in May/June), we need to know if we'll run that program sooner rather than later. At present, we do not have ice to run Major Midget.
Once contracts are signed, we are committed to the ice, thus we incur costs.
District 1 has 8 Junior teams in our District. Each are entitled to 2 16yr old cards, and this card entitlement will not change for the upcoming season.
Since, historically, the Upper Canada Cyclones have run a Major Midget AAA team, and EVERY year, there are players who have never played a higher level than B rep, it stands to reason that there are insufficient players to form a AA team as well as a AAA team. Too many Major Midget age players are simply moving to Junior hockey.
The Kings executive have passed a motion to allow a Major Midget team to be formed under certain conditions:
1. A coach must come forward and be accepted as having sufficient qualifications to coach at the Major Midget AA level.
2. 15 players must place a non refundable deposit of $500. This money will only be refunded if the team folds on 1 May, or if a player is not selected for the team and the team runs for the 2011-2012 season.
Both conditions 1 and 2 must be in place by 1 May 2011, or the team folds.
Any questions can be directed myself.
