Player Selection and Release Procedures 2023/2024 Season

U9-U11 Pathways Pre-Skates
As per the player pathway program, all players are required to attend at least one of the sessions to be eligible for tryouts.  Players may attend all 3 pre-skate sessions if they wish.

We are asking all players to attend the first pre-skate on Tuesday September 5th, 2023 for U11 and Wednesday September 6th, 2023 for U9 and U10, to verify registration and pick up their tryout jerseys.  Please make every effort to attend this ice session.

First Tryout Session – All levels
Please arrive at the arena 1 hour before your first tryout session to verify registration and collect your tryout jersey.  Tryout schedules are posted (check for updates) under the tryout tab.  Some players may not play/skate in every game.  Head Coaches will post who is playing using tryout numbers on the appropriate level team page.  Please refer to the website often.

***U14 Emails will be sent by Registrar notifiying participants of what group they will be attending for the first two sessions. Please watch for this email to come between August 21-24***

It is extremely important that players DO NOT trade jerseys during the tryout process.

***Former Kings Players*** NO KINGS APPAREL is to be worn at any tryout session.  Kings helmet stickers must be removed, and players must not be wearing Kings pant shells and/or socks during tryouts.

Player Releases
Player releases will be completed online again this season, please find below a copy of the player selection and release procedures.

Each player registered for Kings tryouts will participate in at least three (3) on ice sessions (for evaluation purposes).

Head Coaches will be making final releases on the following dates:

U14 September 2, 2023

U16 September 8, 2023
U18 September 26, 2023

Following the final on-ice session, the Head Coach will provide the Kings Executive with a list of players selected to participate on their team for the 2023/2024 season. The list of successful players will be posted on the RSL Kings website www.rslkings.com within 3 hours of the end of the ice session on individual level team pages. Any players not listed on the team page will be considered released. The Kings Registrar will notify all home associations of players returning to their respective associations.

Note: If a coach decides to make releases prior to the final ice time, they will advise all players to check the website to ensure their tryout number is listed to continue in the tryout process.

After final releases, the released player, or parents of the player may contact the Kings Head Coach via e-mail (copying VP-Hockey Operations Doug Andress at cdandress4@yahoo.ca) and request feedback regarding the players performance and a rationale for release from the program. If feedback is requested, the Head Coach will provide their feedback to the player/parents within 72 hours of receipt of the e-mail (copy to cdandress4@yahoo.ca).

Release decisions are not taken lightly, or without concern for each individual player. However, it is important that each player is given the opportunity to play within their respective skill sets and against opponents of similar skill sets. We sincerely hope that each player continues with their hockey journey and that they enjoy participating in this wonderful sport to their fullest potential. We wish them every success and thank them for participating in our tryouts.
